Every third year art student at this moment is either, sanding, painting and building. Why? Because final exhibitions are approaching and a ‘right of passage’ for every art student from across the country. This year along with my university’s own graduate summer exhibition, I will be attending New Designers. Home to 3,000 new and innovative Design students from backgrounds including Ceramics, Textiles and Furniture. So it’s all hands on deck for me at the moment. Stressed? Yes. But i have always loved the buzz just before the exhibitions, when final work is smothered in bubble wrap and I’m doing 10 things all at the same time. I think i would say i enjoy that more than the preview evening. As there’s a sense of unity among art students that not our family’s and close friends tend to get.

We are not competing during this time, we are helping each other towards that finish line. And that creative community is one i hope to be apart of for many years to come.
