*WARNING GRAPHIC ART CONTENT*

If you are reading this right now assuming I’m going to blabber on about some feminist art movement, your wrong. I have decided to call it ‘pornography’ as I believe watching graphic sexual content is no different to how many young artists feel when stalking other artists on Instagram.

If your still not following, let me break it down. porn is not reality and an exaggerated version of what is real, young artists and most with a social media account portray the very best of their lives and their work never revealing true hardship behind it. though very different worlds both portray a very similar message. You could say the same for social media as a whole for every ‘millenial’. that we are all false profiles of ourselves and who can blame anyone. we all want a better version of ourselves, prettier, skinnier, wealthier.

however, how long can we hide behind this before it takes the real version away? the idea for me to write this came as I was sitting at home, friends on the TV and my face embedded in my phone, gawking at all of these young successful and pretty artists who had it figured out with the extra noughts at the end of their follower’s list to prove it.

and there I was the next day in the workshop, trying to make the pot of all pots, panicking and doubting myself. was it me? was I just wasting time? I should be up to their with the thousand something followers and the demand for my work out the mailbox. but who was I?

I was me.

no but all jokes aside, why has our generation become so fixated on comparing our lives to everyone else.

its so easy to forget that nobody is perfect and nobody has it figured out. No one will post the crap in their lives. the struggle. or the pressure they’re under. but as much as we all love the final piece, the job, the promotions, the engagements and the beautiful.

we all have the graft, the crap, the bad days and the doubt. just people prefer to cover all that in glitter…
